Horse Expo 2007

Our
beautiful leading ladies and handsome gentlemen were
the stars of the event. They charmed the audience
along with their elegant and distinguished riders,
We performed opening ceremonies every day as we
proudly entered the ring with two flag horses and
two honor guard horses to present the colors and
make our breed and their owners proud to be an
American as the National anthem was played.
Each day we attended the “Parade of Breeds”
demonstrations where we introduced each horse and
owner/rider with their own biography and 3 special
words describing their qualities and demeanor by a
professional announcer. This was immediately
followed by our famous crowd pleasing “Cotton Row”
demonstration. This is a characterization of the
history and origins of our breed where we show their
ability as a plantation horse in its true sense, the
agility to smoothly work all day surveying the crops
and never step on a single growing plant. We lay out
45 foot long lengths of white fabric 4 feet wide to
begin. The horses stride through which displays the
ability to be agile and careful, each time they,
Canter, Running Walk, Flat Walk, Rack through the
lane as it is closed and narrowed until it is
literally 18 INCHES wide. The crowds on there feet
watching this happen.

The last part of our performance is what we Kindly
call Meet and Greet”. After the excitement of the
“Cotton Row” we bring the horses to the rail for
children to pet and love and for spectators to ask
questions. This amazes the crowd with the
disposition of our equine friends as well bringing
out the very best in their equine partners. They all
JUST LOVE IT! The crowds, the horses and the riders.
Our Booth was a phenomenal display of first class
photos by Mickey Anderson in addition to well versed
members fielding questions from interested
spectators. All our horses attended the clinics
discovering ideas and information on saddle fitting,
bitting, conformation and gait analysis by Liz
Graves. Our breed had tremendous exposure. And we
wish to thank the NWHA members who generously
contributed to our success from sea to shining sea…

Dear Friends,
Your unconditional support to the efforts at the
Pennsylvania Horse World EXPO will be forever
respected and honored. We feel we met all your
expectations and we only wish you could share with
us all the brilliant moments, great conversations
and true appreciation for our beloved breed. Indeed,
by the end of the every day all of our equine
friends had their own fan club and became “Stars” in
every way.
Our Pride and Joy, the Tennessee Walking Horses
attended the opening ceremonies every day carrying
the American Flag standing at attention for the
National Anthem.

The
Greatest Compliment:
“As I was walking by the demo hall a gorgeous
chestnut horse stopped me in my tracks. He had the
most beautiful 3 beat canter and I stopped to
observe, I saw that all the horses were one with
their riders, all soft and gentle, all with ears
forward, a great demo!” Lynn Palm |

Our Stars
“Essence Of Alen Again”….Sensitive, Charismatic,
Genuine.
Essie was our first breeding project, born and
raised at our place. We were so blessed and excited
to be there when she made her entrance into this
world, falling into our laps on a cold April
evening. She's out of our mare, Dancer's Diamond
Lady and a handsome spotted stallion, Spotted Alen
Again. We carefully chose this stud for his talent,
personality and great reputation for siring
beautiful colorful, natural babies. We feel so
rewarded and proud by her presence in our family.
Essie started her show career as our daughter's 4-H
production project and was the PA state champion TWH
as a weanling and again as a yearling. She made her
first "grown up" show debut last season, after
training at Sweet Grass Farms and far exceeded our
expectations. At home she loves to go out on the
trail or just hang out and play with the rest of her
pasture buddies. She loves to be around people and
thrives to be the center of attention and will do
just about anything silly to get it.
I look forward to the many memories we'll make as we
begin our journey together.
She will be my dance partner,
Mary Ellen Hoffman
“Jacquie’s Frosty Gatsby”… FUN !!!!!!!!!! VERSATILE,
SPIRITED Mr. Personality
Gatsby and I are celebrating 15 wonderful and
challenging years together --- we met when he was
just turning three and was a crazy loon -- he was
way too much horse for his owner who sent him back
out to graze in the pasture every time he did all
the silly things a two year learns he can do--
therefore, he had learned a lot of bad and scary
habits and forgotten what gaits he was to do. We
both tend to be control freaks so we were a good
match ready to face the challenges to come.
He had suffered a severe and neglected stifle injury
before I met him and when it became apparent after
my first shoeing appointment, the vets said he would
not be able to do more than light walking trail
work. Gatsby and I spent our first year together
gaiting every single day, rain or shine, hot or cold
(except a few days that were too icy) up and down
the fence line -- flat ground, straight lines, no
turning, no backing, no hill, no circles.....
And the rest is history ---- Gatsby is the best
trail partner anyone could ever ask for -- fun,
spirited, playful, and still as strong as ever. He
excels at shows gaining the NWHA, MATWHA and
Regional Champion in Racking, TWH 3-gait, and
Versatility in which he must compete english,
western, run barrels, trail obstacle, musical
freestyle, jump, costume etc ---and especially
children!
We rarely walk on trail rides, except when we are on
a search mission with TROTSAR Mounted Search and
Rescue, spending an average of 9 hours in the saddle
at a time. At TROTSAR "We ride so others survive"
Gatsby loves to dance and keep time to the marching
bands' music in parades, and show off for the
spectators. My best friend and partner has opened
more new doors to life for me -- cherished
friendships, new opportunities, and chances to give
back to the community. I do so appreciate his
willingness to tolerate me and all the silly things
I ask him to do so well -- and to give his love back
to me every day.
He is my Bestest Friend - Jacquie Cowan
“Shagadellic Mojo”…Mischievous, Performer,
Firecracker
With a name like this he just can’t help it!
Scott and Mojo have been together a little over 2
years. Over that time Mojo has developed from
super-reactive, to a high-energy show horse. While
the potential was always evident, the 2006 show
season confirmed his talent. Winning numerous
championships in Racking and Spotted Saddle Horse
classes, Mojo also won many high point categories at
both the local and National level.
Mojo turns it on when he enters the ring, but he
isn’t just a show horse. Mojo goes out on the trails
as well. He is a smooth, comfortable ride and shows
the calm, relaxed side of his personality. His
friendly, puppy dog personality makes him a barn
favorite, and he always tries to exchange kisses for
cookies with any passers-by. Mojo has the ladies at
the barn well-trained!
Best Friend, Scott Douglas
“Showtime Shaker”… Suave, Obstinate, and Irascible.
Shaker is the pride of Shadowfax Farm. At the ripe
old age of 21, Shaker is the elder statesman of
Shadowfax Farm. He very quickly established himself
as a show horse by placing 3rd at the Celebration as
a 3 year old and has been showing ever since. He was
retired at the age of 19 winning his last blue
ribbon in Trail Pleasure 3-gait at the North
American Plantation Classic. Shaker's current job is
babysitting weanlings, and young colts at the farm.
When given the chance he still likes to showoff his
winning form at expos and exhibitions. He also loves
to enter the ring with his new companion and he is
ever so willing to teach his partners to ride.
(Especially for a handful of skittles) He will be
presented by Ms. Kimberly Rich this weekend. See him
proudly carry the colors in opening ceremonies for
the 2007 Horse World Expo. Shaker embodies all the
old style walking horse is. Sharon and Steve Rice
“Gold Southern Belle” …Striking Bold and Beautiful
Belle is the pride of Shadowfax Farm. This lovely 7
year old loves to trail ride around the lake when at
home. She enjoys the company of all she meets she is
a very loving young lady. She is a hard worker
making the job for her amateur owners much easier.
Belle is exquisite, perfectly formed in conformation
with great credentials and years of experience. She
excels in all of her classes by gracefully floating
around the show ring captivating her audiences. She
is always shown in the Amateur Owned and Trained
divisions and as a 3 Time National Grand Champion
Gold Southern Belle is continuing to dominate in
both the Lite Shod and Plantation Pleasure
Divisions. In 2007 Belle will be back in the
Plantation Pleasure Division, competing in both 2
gait and 3 gait classes. Belle was also the National
High Point Model Champion in 2005. She will open the
2007 show season at the Camden Classic in South
Carolina in March. I was truly blessed when Steve
bought this wonderful mare for me. She is one in a
million a dream to ride. Sharon Rice
“Poison’s Cross Bones” …Thoughtful, Classic and
Debonair
This classy gelding has a charisma of his own as he
enters the ring. His four white socks and a bit on
his face just says G.Q. What a handsome man, He is
classically trained with dressage and he is ever so
pleased to perform the signature rocking horse
canter that is a true tribute to the Tennessee
Walking Horse. He is a perfect gentleman and a true
blessing at Sweet Grass Farms with all his love and
consideration. He cares for everyone he meets. His
kindness shows in his soft and gentle eye. He is
Kind. He has earned countless Blue Ribbons in Trail
Pleasure and Lite-shod and he is one the finest
driving horse’s you have ever seen, not to mention
side saddle. If romance is what you are looking for
just ask Pe.Ce he is certainly love at first sight.
Lovingly, Jeannie McGuire & Sarah Small
“Kruggrands-Mark Velvet”…She is VELVET, Soft Gentle
and Talented
Velvet will be 12 years old this year. She came to
me as a temporary free lease from a friend, Susie
Sawyer, in South Carolina six years ago. Part of the
lease agreement was I could breed her and have the
foal. After I started working with her I realized
she had great potential as a show horse. We started
showing in 2002 and had a great year. The following
year I bred her to “I’m Dumas Walker”. Also, that
year my friend in South Carolina died unexpectedly
and I had the opportunity to buy Velvet from her
estate. I have owned many horses in my life but
Velvet is the sweetest most unique horse I have
every owned. She produced a beautiful colt, Dumas
Walker’s Kruggrand, who I believe will be as
talented as she is in the show ring. For the past
two years I have been showing Velvet in All Day
Pleasure and Trail Pleasure classes with outstanding
results.
She is so gentle and easy going that I use her for
the grand kids when they come to ride. It is as
though she knows she has special cargo aboard and
she moves very slowly and precisely around the ring.
She is also a great trail horse who always wants to
please and will go anywhere you ask her to go. She
has truly been a wonderful companion and friend to
me. Susie, you would be so proud of your special
girl!
Love , Betty Franlkin |
